Default Went back for more....

I decided to go recover some more lead today. I went back to where I was last week. I started finding sinkers slowly, as I was in an area I had already searched, but not thoroughly. I even searched an area that I thought would be loaded, but didn't find anything. To much muck and algal growth. I need current to keep it clean.

I did end up finding several other little "glory holes" loaded with sinkers. I also started finding more coins, especially nickels. I also found at least 1 fired bullet (hit a rock and deformed, obvious grooves from the barrel on the base), and maybe one other fired bullet.

I weighed the bucket when I got back to the van. It's nice to know my scale doesn't bottom out at 50 lbs, as this went to 55 lbs!

Here's a shot of this bucket:

And both buckets together:

Today's bucket is on the right, last week's is on the left. The ziplock baggie is from some that I had found over the course of the summer.

All totaled, it's over a hundred pounds, some of it usable as-is.

The bedrock of this part of the river is all flat, level slabs of sandstone and/or limestone. In many places, large slabs have broken off, washed downriver, and deposited on "something" that catches them, usually another rock. Some are just one slab, with sand deposited before and after the rock; sinkers are deposited in both places. Sometimes, it's several slabs of rock that have started forming a rock bar, with sand underneath. I wouldn't be surprised if I were to go out with a couple other people, move some of these slabs, and find a mother load of sinkers beneath them.

As it is, this is enough lead to keep me in sinkers for a couple years, at least. Especially since I'm not really using bank sinkers like I use to; in snaggy areas, I tend to drift a float, and only need a few large split shot.

If I get a mold for split shot, I'll probably have enough lead for 10 years or so!
