I am going to be heading to Lake Tillery this upcoming Sunday and Monday to take my fiance and her father to do a little catfishing. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me out on where I could cast net some shad and what area of the lake is my best bet to get them on some fish. Thanks for any help you are willing to give.

I haven't been lately but the last couple of times I went there was plenty of shad around the little bridge that you go under out from the boat ramps at swift island. Right now you could catch a good one from one end of the lake to the other, try channel ledges and dropoffs.

Thanks for you help CMJ, is drifting an effective way of getting some nice fish or is it better to try and anchor for them?

Drifting can be effective if you're set up for it, so that you don't go too fast when the water temps are as low as they are now. I anchor 99.9 % of the time, just my preference, but drifting can produce.

You aren't gonna get much out of these guys with a tournament coming up. You can drift or anchor whichever you have more confidence in. If you drift slow it way down due to the low water temps. Most guys say between .3 and .5 mph. When I get that slow my gps just registers 0.0...so I know I am going the right speed. Good luck. CMJ is right they are from one end of the lake to the other.

Yup, big fish from one dam to the other right now. Just watch your graph, if you mark fish, fish it. Generally you'll find that one depth range produces on a given day. If you get good fish in 30 ft. then concentrate on that depth. Good luck man! I'll be there on Sun. If you see a G3 center console with a 90 hp yamaha on it, stop by and say hey. I'll be there early putting in at Swift Island.

Tillery fishes like two different bodies of water. You have the stretch above 24/27 bridge which fishes like a river and you have the section of the lake below 24/27 that fishes like a lake. Both can be good, or bad depending on a lot of things. Like Rookie has said before, the jist of it is to cut it and sling it.
