Default side imaging

anyone use the bird side imaging?
I am thinking about trying to put together 10k pennies
to get one. The lower end one still cost agrand , but I can see howw you could save gas just on running around when you can see around you and maybe locate a underwater structure that you couldn't have with normal sonar. what are youe opions? I have a bird 565

I dont know where your fishing but check to see if your lakes are on the maps, also most rivers arent. you might want to save the money from preloaded and get a newer map chip. I like my SI 997

yea you are right I fish SAM Rayburn here in TX but I am moving to another area that has a lake called lake ***estine which has a high population of catfish. Sam Rayburn record blue r&r is 53 the one in my avatar was 55 but I didn't certify it. my son caught a 70lb flathead last year out of my boat R&R and was .22ounces from tying the lake record.
so in moving to a new area I was thinking of upgrading sonar to help learn that lake. so I will check first before I buy

I have 797 John and really like it. that side imaging does a great job of "painting" a picture of whats below the surface and perhaps even how to make your presentations without as many hangups. The standard sonar does real good and you'll be familiar with those settings as well, from your other bird. GPS,,,well as long as the government don't mess with ya its pretty cool and helps keep ya safe,,but like I said as long as Uncle Sam dont mess with ya...I marked some fish on the Mon River last friday for Sat's tourney and found myself running thru the woods a few hundred yards accourding to the map on Saturday now my marked holes were still correct on the map,,it was just my current position was off by a couple hundred yards

been there done that I was using gps for night navigation and it worked flawless for weeks going to the same areas then one night I was 100 yds off and went between 4 trees at 40mph^^put skidmarks on my boat and my shorts, so I no longer trust them as much

I have a an HB 798 and love it. DO NOT *** the extra $$$ for the NVB preloaded. Get the Navionics chip for $150. One foot interval contour lines on lots of lakes. EXTREMELY ACCURATE. Just check their website for your lakes.
