Ok, I'm having trouble running the new transducer cable back up through the tangle of cables from several shops doing some work on it in the past. It keeps getting stuck and I can only reach so far into the hole and the last hurdle is just out of reach. I ran the line to follow the old transducer line but the new transducer gets stuck.
Anybody got a suggestion? The set up (and how the former owner who rebuilt it set it up) makes it tough to get it fished if I were to use a tape to get it through. Any other ideas? |

The cable dosent have to mimic the other wires exactly, in fact they say dont run it next to other wires because it will pick up false signals from other electronics. most boats have ample room to run wires so just try and find a safe, hidden route and it will be fine.

My boat is pretty full of cables, too. I have used the tapered end from a tube of silicone, or a splicing fid, taped to the connector to act as a wedge to help ease the cable through. Run your twine or rope through the center. Works very well for me.

Thanks for the good idea! I have never thought of that.

Forgot to mention, I also lube the cable end with liquid soap.

Yeah, I ended up using galvenized wire and fishing it through on the inside top of the pipe that the previous owner had fiberglassed in when he redid the floor and scraping the idea to try and pull it through the path the prior transducer cable took.
The main problem I had was when the newer motor went in a couple years ago went in and they ran cables they had gotten the transducer cable wrapped around it and made it get stuck between two or 3 of the cables where they pinched together. I had wrapped the new transducer cable connector in electrical tape and made it into a point so it would slip through the snags, but it didn't work in that case. |
