Default Pee dee fishing reports

Posted Nov. 11,2008
Winston and I went to the Pee Dee river with a guide today since he was out of school. The guide said the fishing was going to be good today. He hit that one right on the head. I let Winston catch the first 6 fish and it wore him out! His first 6 fish weighed in at 202 lbs!!! They came fast too. I had some good laughs watching him catch those fish. Those river fish can do the dance when you hook up with them. Lot of power in them fish. Well Winston was worn out so he said I let you catch the next 6 dad and we will see who caught the best stringer...well he beat me but it didnt matter to me. I still had a stringer of over a 158lbs myself. We continued on after that and shared the rest of the catches. We ended the day with 16 blues that weigh in at 439lbs!!! Heres the weights of each fish as we caught them. 32,38,25,34,36,31,34,29,15,32,27,21,26,10,28,21. Winston caught the 38 which was the biggest fish of the day. We had one triple hook up and one double that just about became a triple also. I dont care where you go in the USA...thats a dang good day. Money well spent and the guide said its just getting started. Im going back!!! Here is a few pictures.....

We had a great time today!!!

CMJ and I decided to try our luck on the Pee Dee River today with a super nice guide. I wont mention his name at this point but he should be a sponser of the site soon. Now on to the fishing report.
Started the morning out fishing one area of the river with CMJ catching two cats ..a 32lber and 14lb flat. This area really isnt know to produce many flats according to the guide so that was a nice surprise to start the morning. I caught 2 fish here also...a channel cat at 8-10 lbs and bowfin.
We then packed up things and loaded the boat and went to the guides honey hole area. Its was good but the bigger fish didnt want our offerings very well today but we still had a nice day of fishing. The first two offerings didnt produce for us but the 3rd time was the charm. I had a hit and noticed the fish was running hard with my bait and by the time I caught up with it the fish past the boat. Turned out to be a 31lb blue. Later caught 2 fish at 22lbs and a 28lber. Cmj caught several fish in the high teens plus he hooked up with the hog of the day to only see it come up and bust top and pull free of the circle hook. We all agreed the fish was in the mid to high 40s. The guide used braided line and Im hear to tell you ...in that shallow water with that braided line ....I seen some of the fastest hardest take downs on rods and reels in my life! Wow whats a way to get you excited. Most of the hits was so fast the drags was peeling before you could get it out of the rod holder. This shallow water fishing reminded me of tarpon fishing. We seen several big blues swimming around the boat at different times with one pushing the 50 lb mark. We didnt get the big hogs that the area is know to produce but they are there no dout. They will be there for years to come too. The areas we fished was hard to get to even in a jet boat. All we seen was one small boat and the rest was airplanes! What a peaceful way to fish in the summer. Here is some pictures

Cmj with 14lb flathead

Cmj with his 32lb blue

here is my 31lber

here is my 28lber

here is the end of a great day of fishing. If you would of seen all the rocks we was running across as I took this picture...it would make you draw up looking at it. The river rose 2-3 ft while we was fishing. If you look at the pictures of cmj's fish compared to mine you can see what Im talking about some. Lots of rocks.
