Default Nov. 5, 2011 Another trip out w/our Wounded Warriors

Darian (Signguy) and I will be taking out Tanya, Tony and 1 or 2 kids on Saturday to see if we can't find some nice cats for them to catch, unlike during the event. Hopefully the cats are turning on and we can get them on a few 30's and 40 lbers on Saturday. We're trying to get enough film so Darian can get a good video of the couple.

Also a side note, Tanya and Tony will be married the following weekend Nov. 12, so maybe we can send them a nice video of the outing as a small wedding gift.

Well Tony and Tanya met us at DB around 7:30 am and we headed out to seek out cover from the wind and yet try to hookup with some nice Blues. It was extremely slow in the DB loop area. We decided to head to the main river and fish around there and finally got 1 small blue 6 lbs. Tanya had honors of reeling that fish in and then we started searching for another area to fish. We had bites but no take-downs so we were getting ready to call it a day when we decided to stop by 1 more spot. We missed a good take-down, it got hung up in a tree but we re-baited several rods and put them back out again. We said that we'd give it another 20 minutes then call it quits. About 10 minutes later, one of my rods starts pulling down and Darian pulled up and got the hook set and then Tony took over. When we finally got the cat in the toon, it was a 28 lb 39" Flathead. That's the biggest freshwater fish Tony has ever caught and it was also a citation too, which I believe Tony is going to send the paperwork in for. Darian got photos and a video clip of Tony fighting the FH in. Since the water temp was 55 degrees, the FH didn't fight like he would have, if the temps were in the upper 60-70's but he still had a good time with it. We had a few more take-downs but no hookups so we finally called it a day. We plan on going out again in the near future once we all have an available weekend to fish together.
We all had a great time out there and of course plenty of laughing and joking around was done.
Tony and Tanya will be getting married on Thursday so the next time we're fishing together, they will be husband and wife.
As soon as Darian post up the photos on FB, I'll copy them and post them up here.

Report of conditions on James River. river levels are high, you couldn't even tell there was a low tide today. Extremely slow incoming tide due to the out flowing water. Some trash is floating down the river, no major trees but there was some larger branches and plenty of leaves. Water temp started out at 54 degrees and ended at 56 degrees at 5:00 pm. Bait wasn't easily at all, I found most of my cutters in 20 ft. of water. I had to extend my end floats to sink my gill net. Candys were tough too, they didn't seem to be in baitballs but just really small groups of them. Wind was a little tough during the mid-day when it hit around 16-18 mph, white caps were coming down the DB loop for awhile. Forecast for tomorrow is about the same as today. I would say that the river is at least 2 ft. above normal and that you consider incoming tide to be a dead tide unless water levels drop before tomorrow.
Alot of boats were out today, hunters going to the Island, joy riders, Striper fishermen and catfishermen. We saw at least 20-25 boats just in the DB area today, which surprises me, I figured the temps would keep a lot of them off the water. Ok.....that's my report...for what it's worth.
