Default Norman or Wylie docks?

Hey Everyone,

Im new to the area, I just moved to Charlotte from VA. Unfortunately I dont have a boat, but Ive got some fishing poles. Im wondering if theres any good fishing piers (or shore) on lake Norman or Wylie that would produce some fish.

Not looking for anyone to divulge their secrets, but a point in the right direction would be awesome! I attached a pic from the summer where we went noodlin with the 'Grappler' on here.

Thanks ahead of time for any advice.

if i was bank fishing i would head to mountain island lake off of hwy 16 and head toward mcdowell creek. get near the peninsula and catch bait on the shallow side and cats on the deeper side. sorry cant help you with directions but can google map with satellite and find.
mecklenburg county has alot of day access areas on wylie. you can fish from them. You also can find a dirt landing off of hwy 74-just off 85 and 485 opposite direction on 74 from the airport.

Thanks for the advice guys! I just looked at the dirt landing there, thats not too far from my work, that might be a nice jump to so I can blow off some steam after hours.

One last question (thats a lie), wheres a good bait shop around Charlotte? Ive been to the Bass Pro, but theres got to be a local shop around here, I tend to like those more anyways.

Best private tackle shop in Charlotte is Byrum's General store. It's on Hwy 160 at I- 485. It's a gray building. They also have barbeque sandwiches and hotdogs.

I've caught catfish off of docks at both lakes but oddly enough I can't believe that I caught anything as they were in the very backs of coves away from deep water and all. So you can catch them. I saw a nice fish (15-20lbs) get caught off the dock at one of the campgrounds at Wylie. I can't remember what campground though, it was quite a while back.

Went over to Byrums last night to check out the stock, theres some good stuff in there!

Also checked out the ramp off of 74, not a bad looking spot, lots of guys out there fishing, didnt seem to be doing much at the time, but who knows what was going to happen with the full moon.

And Ill be looking at the Buster Boyd tonight to see how far that buoy is. Ive got a heaver that can chunk some lead out there, hopefully I can make it without a problem.

Thanks again for all the info guys!

Ive seen many guys catch some good channels from the Buster Boyd bridge/ ramp area, but most of them are using "stink bait", minnows, and worms. try and get some bream and cut it into chunks. There is a place on the Southfork river that has fishing access at the hothole. Alot of orientals fish there, but if you get out on the point towards the river there are some good fish caught around there. Just remember that NC and SC dont get along when it comes to fishing licenses, so make sure you have both if you are going to fish both sides.
