Thanks fellows...we enjoyed it...like I said we got lucky to finish second. We won 600.00 bucks...had enough money to get home on with these gas prices....lol. There was 26 teams in the event Marty....I think the winners took home close to 1200.00 for first and 720.00 for big fish...so 1920.00 bucks. Thats a good payout for any catfish event. I wish I had pictures to share with you fellows but omar took them...he proablly recovering from the event...he will get them on here soon I feel sure. Im going to make a 8 x10 to hang on my shop wall and give dad one for his shop too of our two flatheads. I always wanted to win a tourney with flatheads....never have done that before. We will be back.

Omar always puts on a great event. Hes had as many as 40 plus teams down there but this year the economy has things just slowed down. I been at blacks for a month on teh weekends and this was by far the biggest crowd I have seen at blacks on any weekend so far. Fishing hasnt been great for us but santee is a big fish producing lake...you not going to get em at the house.

Hes coming back to regroup. He tried to get mom to catch a few of them...she dont care nothing about fishing...said it was hurting her shoulders...I can understand though...shes been carring him around all his life... The good news is he said all the big ones came off my end of the boat. The 44 and 30 was flatheads.

I cant remember what I told him Chris...hes talked so much crap to me over time....and we go back and forth on it. Usually if we dont do too good...he will look at me and say my guide sucks.....lol. Ive been blessed with a good relationship with my dad all my life.

I remember the time he called me up about 30 minutes after daylight after I had left him a message the night before that I would come by and get him to go deer hunting the next morning...well I overslept....lol. He woke me up with the phone call and cussed me out...lol. I felt really bad for over sleeping but he wasnt having none of that and hung up on me. That made me mad...so I went hunting anyways...got in the tree stand about 2 hours late...at 11.00am I killed a nice buck and took it to his house and cleaned it.

Another time he left me and went to santee..thought I would come on down there....wrong! I left him down there by himself...I told mom if hes in that big a hurry I dont want to fish with him. She went down there and fished with him....he later said ...I learned my lesson on that one. He hasnt left me since.

Just a couple great memeories I have with my dad when things didnt go as planned. Glad we can both laugh about it today and go on.

Well I made my last trip to santee for the year. We fished friday night...caught two about 10 lbes each. Fished saturday night...same area caught 25-30 fish biggest est.25-28 lbs. We had 3 fish to break the 20 lb mark. Sunday night...we caught bait made our run across the lake...looked to be a pretty decent night to fish..until we stopped...I seen lightin coming...here we go.. ran back to the canal...set about 45 minutes waiting and wondering...decided to wait a couple hours and then go back. Loaded the boat and the wind switched and blew that storm right back in on us! Smart move to go in. Decided last night...since we already had bait we might try monticello on our way in instead. Well we woke this morning to rain and NE winds. Rolled back over and got some more sleep. Packed it up at 11.00 and rolled towards the house. Looking back over the past two months...the flatheads have been hit and miss....that was exspected with our drifting methods but where did all the blues go? The big blues? We fished the past two months and our top two blues was a 33 and 37. Santee has been tuff on us this year....according to what Im seeing...we not alone on this mission. Only thing I can figure is when the lake went down....the fish should of moved to the lower end of the lake....but once she started filling back up ....I think those big blues followed that current up river and are now in the upper lake. Add in the fact...the spawn was really late this year...to me. Im no biologist...just a fisherman but I know what current does to blues. Another issue I have seen over past two months was the east winds...seemed like I fished more east winds this year than ever before...maybe that had something to do with...I dont know. I do know the bite has been hot one night and dead the next. For those that are currently fishing santee...those little white perch was the hot ticket saturday night...the big ones and cut ones was okay but the small ones..3"-4" was the best bait for us. Back to the yadkin for me.

Good report Mike. I have always heard that "wind from the east, fish bite the least", and this has always been my experience as well.

Thanks for the report Micheal. If you ust PM me those #'s I will keep you up to date on the bite. The bite has been really tough for me this year as well. Just as you said your a HERO one day and a ZERO the next. Not much of a pattern at all.

Its number 48 on my gps James.....lol. I thought I saw you coming back from the lake last friday? White dodge pulling a tri hull boat with some writing on the side...right behind roundhill. One thing I noticed saturday night...the blues wasnt hitting real hard like normal...I noticed they had the red mouth pretty bad(75% of them). Back to the hole thing....this whole thread has been about fishing deep water ledges. 35-50 ft. I found fish in those depths the first trip and I have stuck with them....no thermocline. Even the fighting fish picture was taken in 45 ft of water on a ledge. All I can say if those blues was fighting over a female in shallow water...they went to Vegas to fight...lol. I hope things get turned around for you. Maybe this cool snap is just what you need. Water temps have remained at 83-85 the whole time. They in there somewheres...I know. Good luck to you.
