?Kerr Lake Ice Bowl-The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Had a great time. i am posting the observations of a first time participant. It will definitely be a "do-over" Kerr Lake Ice Bowl-The Good the Bad and the Ugly Good: Meeting new folks – those Va boys aren’t that bad (friendly in fact)….they just tried to intimidate NC, so they could have more Va teams show up than NC haha! Well run tournament Tournament format of one fish and the team concept-need to duplicate with SC and NC border lake Sponsor supplied hot meal after cold day fishing Door prizes Nice Folks everywhere Oconeecheee State Park-good facility 5 lane boat ramp Putting faces and names with internet posters and folks you see online Clarksville-A fishing town that makes money from fishing and appreciate fishermen Comradiere of working together as a team for a common goal Value priced motels (on the lake) with truck/trailer parking with electrical hook ups that is close to landing Restaurants within walking distance so boat and trailer can stay parked and charging The “way” they did the “weigh” in by calling the entrant number Bad- THE WIND Fish and bait everywhere but not biting participants I kinda expected some more bigger fish to be weighed. A lot of good fishermen getting humbled. Our plan to stop at falls lake to get bait but was a deluge instead. we couldnt drive but 40mph on interstate and still didnt see falls because of the rain. Bait was tough-threw all over the Kerr lake to find them Friday evening near the ramp. The whole lake has gradual slopes so tough on bait getting The long drive from Charlotte 7:30 blast off instead of 6:30 Ugly- My 10 lb contribution for NC Friday afternoon 4 ft rollers and headwind turning a 10 min ride into 30 min. (busted Johnny Ray sonar/gps mount and knocked the screws out of the front navigation lights and lights were dangling when got back to landing. 70 boats trying to get out of the no wake area to blast off ?

thanks for coming out BigBird...it was nice to meet you and Rob. Glad you guys enjoyed it and looking forward to seeing ya'll again next year. I honestly think there would've been some better fish caught if it would've been a little colder. The water temps actually rose 8-9 degrees in the last couple weeks and that high pressure system we had made it kinda tough IMO. I was doing alot better 2 weeks ago when the water was 41 degrees and the weather was miserable! Maybe next year will be a true ICE bowl.
