Hey guys looking for just a little help.
Usually my buddies and I make the trip from West Virginia to Lake Marion Santee every year around Easter weekend. However over the last few years we have noticed a significant drop in our average daily catch. So we have decided to stay closer to home this year and attemt Buggs Island. I have a few questions to ask if anyone can assist. 1) I have been looking at Century 21 lake cabins for rent and have found some nice ones. However I have no idea of what area of the lake to try and be in. 2) Will I need to catch my own bait or does the marinas sell herring/shad like other lakes do ? 3) Are the fish usually shallow around early spring once they prepare to spawn or do they stay in 15 feet or deeper of water? I have heard mixed answers in this. Lake Marion you can catch blues in 2 ft of water throwing right against a tree during spawn. Wondering if Kerr is anything like this. 4) Not trying to ask anyone where to fish or any secrets just a basic starting point and alittle help with areas. Thanks in advance. |

I havnt fished there in 12 years since i was a kid. My grandpa had a trailor on gaston. I dont remember specific spots i know my grandpa would take us out n wed fish pretty much newhere in main channel. Wed anchor out to the side of channel n fish the sloped of the channel with cutbait and shrimp.one of my biggest blues i caught there. One spot i cn remember was some standing timber on a flat beside a bend in the channel. Hope this helps some if u hv ne questions jus message me

Good to see ya again MKE, sorry I can't be of any help, I've never fished there, I figure most hot spots are gonna be tight lipped since the new world record came from there as well as a few over 100 lbs. Cabelas King Kat will be having a tourney there in a couple weeks -- might be a good time to observe the fishing patterns of fishermen then

I've only fished Kerr in the winter, but it is loaded with fish and you will be impressed if you go fish it. I'm not sure on the summer patterns up there. It didn't take us to long to figure out the fish there in the winter time, but summer's gonna' be a different deal. There is plenty of lake to fish and plenty of fish in it. Wtjordan spends a good bit of time up there in the summer. I'm sure he'll chime in with something. Good luck man! If you were coming down my way I'd be glad to help ya' out.

Sorry, just noticed you mentioned Easter weekend, not summer time, not sure what I was thinking there. If I were starting out I would stay above the bridges, but I'm sure you can catch them anywhere throughout the lake. Don't overlook shallow water.
