Me, searayfisher, Fatcat, Jerry and playin possum fished the icebowl on Kerr today and man was it a tournament. 72 boats showed up to fish it and blastoff was very interesting.....lol. I did some scouting Fri. and did a little fishing and caught 9 blues but no bigguns, only about 15 lb. We went to our big fish spot first thing that morning and the fish were in there just as good as they were on Fri. when i graphed it. We fished hard all day and got our heart broke a couple times on good fish getting in the anchor rope, coming off and getting in timber, but we ended with a solid fish at 35 lb. to bring to the scales. We ended up finishing 5th. Big fish that won it was 45 lb, so we wasn't far off, but didn't quite have enough. had a blast though! Funnest tournament I've fished I think. It was very well put together and organized, they even had people grilling hotdogs for the fisherman at weigh in. I was extremely impressed with it. VA did beat NC in the total weight by about 70 lb though.....getting better, maybe next year they'll go down!

Had a blast today. It was nice meeting the people that I did. Me and Wes marked plenty of fish, just couldn't make them bite. Oh well. Wasn't too bad for a first time Kerr experience. Thanks for calling in our biggest fish, mike. Idk if we wouldve caught him without your help

Congrats Rookie and Searay, That was tuff fishing.
![]() Thumbs up to bigbird and ShrewboyRob, they power drifted friday and saturday and wind didnt mess with them ![]() I got there tuesday just before dark and stayed on the boat until friday night. Slept in the motel friday night and back on the water at 4am sat. I'm beat I saw alot of Buggs Island....its enormus. I burned $150 in boat gas. The Lake is not comparable to the Yadkin Chain lakes. You mark fish from the time you put boat in the water until you get off. tons of bait 40 ft deep in channels. Not the easiest to catch but if you keep looking you will find some you can reach. Buggs has no size or quanity limit on crappie, catch all you want, and 10-12 inchers are common....I caught 0 on 2 sabiki rigs tipped with shad. However there was plenty of bait sharing at the motel friday night. The ramp is in a small cove with a pier sticking way out...bottle necking the exit of the cove. 73 boats caught off guard behind the bottle neck and "Blastoff!" it was the craziest mess I ever seen boats on the left trying to cross to the right and others to the left, pontoon boats everywhere, it was wild. It was a great tournement and its a great lake, you will just have to learn a small section at the time it would take many years to "fish" the entire lake. for fish report...tuesday I caught about 6 blues in the 8-10 range wed I caught about 5 in the 18-20 lb range and a few smaller Thursday I spent daylight hours scouting for better spots to fish, Playing Possum jumped aboard thursday night and we caught a few small ones. Friday morning we started off with a 22 lbr and some 8-10 lbrs. and moved out of the creeks into the main lake. wind blew more and more until we called it quits about 3 or 4 and went through the 3-4 foot swells for a few miles to get to ramp and motel. after about 5 beers and a shot of yager I slept like a baby. Saturday we went to the better spots we had caught fish at and we caught 1 fish 7-8 lbs. ![]() Thanks guys for the tips and bait I will plan another trip there.

i got tired of looking at my graph. fish and bait everywhere. we just couldnt get the bigger fish to bite. we weighed a 10lber and also caught two stipers, with the biggest 21in.
i didnt really enjoy my ride back yesterday in the four foot rollers but made it back safely . good to see everyone again and meet some internet folks and new faces.

Jerry, you must have been just a couple rooms over from us. I saw the pearl many times but i never laid eyes on ya. Was hoping to meet you. We were on "the Equalizer." Did you see your boats little brother out there??? The Thunder Jet belonged to a friend of Wtjordan's that i met this weekend. Both boats, i would probably stab someone for.
Oh yea, broke a rod yesteday while drift fishing.. Got back to the ramp, and won the sea striker rod and bass pro baitcasting reel.. Not quite the rod that i broke, but im sure that combo will make someone happy.. Im thinking about giving it to one of my buddies thats just getting into catfishing. |

Had a great time and met alot of great people, including several guys off of this forum. I'd like to say a big thanks to all you guys who made the long haul to support team NC, and congrats to Rookie for finishing in the money with a nice fish! This is the only tournament I fish generally, but I may have to come up and check out one on Badin or Tillery this year...give you guys some of my money!
And Russ...like David said, thanks for calling the fish in for us! Seriously, every time you would do that a rod would go down within 5 minutes, haha. Glad you guys made it back safe, and hope to see ya'll again next year. Tight lines
