Heavy duty rod holder by flathead hunter
There are times when I enjoy leaving the boat home and head for the bank for cats. I don't trust store bought rod holders, and lost a few poles when I was young using a forked stick, To see one of my garcia's going into a lake would not be a good thing. So I have come up with a homemade one. I bought some Orrville brand #74836 dog tie out stakes, they are 7/16 " X 21" , plenty sturdy and extra long. I cut off the very top to remove the swivel, But leave plenty of room to thread the end. Next I used some 3/8 rod and bent it into the shape shown, (Like the cheap ones from department stores) A torch of any type helps with this. Next I bought some 3/8 couplers & rethreaded one side to 7/16 , Then just screw it all together. I all ready had the 3/8 bar , but any size will work, And since I Don't have access to a welder this worked out very well. You could make this shorter, I just left the dome on top of the stake on it really helps to get it down in the ground.Pics attached
