Went dowm to the lake yesterday and fished for about 1/2 day just trying to locate some fish for next week its spring break and I have a few kids to take out next week in search of some big santee cats. Fished shallow but found most of the fish on a heavy dropoff in about 25-30ft deep. The water temps yesterday morning were 58deg but warmed up to 64 by lunch. The bite was real slow matter of fact the big fish of the day was a 24.5lb blue that picked up the bait and swam with the boat for nearlly 5 minutes before pulling the rod down. I just new it was a flathead but turned out not to be. I kept 3 fish to et and 2 of them were full of eggs and I dont mean ready to lay but they had been eating eggs. They were mid teen fish not little fish. All fish that I caught apperred to be females but didnt seem to be ready to lay yet maybe next month.

thanks for the good report, James. You did a good job on that pic; it looks much more than 25#. What was the bait preference?

I was thinking they must have been largemouth eggs. The sacks were pretty big but the eggs were real small deffinatlly not catfish eggs. All we had for bait was the large herring but I found a big pod of white perch before I left and I hope to get on them 1st thing. I sure wish they would get some shad in again. I went to the Deiter Melhorne school of photography not so bad for a cell phone.

Does the fish have to come from SC or just the fisherman ? If I'm on the Savannah River depending on what side of the river I am on, I'll be in either SC or Ga. Let me know about this question. Thanks

Tom if you catch it in the Savannah river it counts since thats the border between Ga & S.C. any big fish caught in the Savannah river can be submitted for records in both States

we have the same thing here in Virginia, if a fish is caught in the Potomac river it can be entered in both Maryland and Virginia, but only if caught from a boat if your on the bank they only list it in the stat you were actually standing in

Went out last night but got chased off by 4 ft swells. Set up first at Cypress until the waves came up. No real wind, couldn't figure that out. BY the time we got to the cove at Bob Cooper we couldn't even set up. Went in as far as Mussel beach but even there it was tough. gave up at midnight and went on in.

Can't set up in our usual spot at Cooper. They have it blocked off with those orange markers. Seems the kids are seining there. We went to see the camp today about our gator friend seems they have a total of 3 that are nesting around there..... So our monster flat will have to wait until the kids leave before we can tackle him. IF he even stays with all that goin on

Just the side DOUG.... from the pier out around the bend....

we could go out a little further to set up but Jim would have to do a "hit em on the head" move to even get close. I guess about half way out in the cove above the brush piles.

I spoke with the NC fellows about a hour ago....said they caught 3 fish biggest 15 lbs so far. I think they had found a few stumps too. I gave them some advice before they left..."dont get in no hurry on the water...take your time" and they still bumped a few stumps....no damage so far. Maybe they will bring back a good fishing report.

Well last day for big fish of the month for April....better be posting up if you got em.
