Late night, when everything is calm , and the plankton is nearer the surface for the shad to feed, close to a artificial light source .

Does anybody use one of those "green" lights to attract baitfish? I bought some plans off the internet a couple of years ago to make a homemade green light that is 4' long. I made one but have never used it. I was wondering just how well these things really work.

I have 2 green ones about 12-18 inches long, I put them just below the surface and in short time bait is swarmimg the light. not eating size fish but lots of bait size
I normally dont put out but 1 light and it hooks to battery with alligator clips

Used to use them crappie fishing, they attract small minnow size baitfish excellent but never seen anything bigger than that around them.

I use one at the trestle on Badin and there will be so much bait the depth finder reads 2 ft in 40 feet of water looks like you could just step out on the water just try that light up there sometime !

The light that I made uses a green 4' fluorescent tube that is fitted inside a clear pvc tube. The entire light is about 5' long overall. I have a 3-4lb window weight to pull it underwater. It puts out alot of light so it should do well. I need to go to HRL sometime and try it out.
