Default 140#er caught on Santee feb 8

J. W. Dowler caught a 140#r today on Santee. I think it was caught on a trot line and it was not released due to the pic. beast of a fish.

My suspicion is that is why the fella set a trotline to begin with.
That is a truly big fish!

I just read on another forum that the fish was caught on a trot line and the fish was trashed after some pics were taken. If this is true..what a waste!! It was also said the guy that caught it is a commercial fisherman for catfish. I bet he could of took that fish into town and sold it to the locals. Shoot, I wouldn't be scared to clean it and cut it up into nuggets! The fish probably had at least 50# of good meat on him.

^ Doesn't surprise me at all.. Santee has been riddled with commercial catfisherman for some time now, and that has bee the decline of that lake. Use to be able to put monster fish in the boat every time someone went out. Now, the big fish come fewer and further in between.

I have been going to Santee (Lake Moultrie) every year since 1997. I too have noticed that over the past 5 or 6 yrs that the size and numbers of fish we caught has decreaced. I like the "1 fish over 36" per day" rule SCDNR inplamented. Personally, I would like to see that size dropped to 32" and a limit of 8-10 fish per day plus outlaw trot lines and all commercial fishing, keep it like that for at least 5-8 yrs so the population of nice blues could bounce back to where it was several years ago. They did this for the Striped Bass and they are making a come back, so it has to work for the Blue cats also.
